The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Instrument - Powered-lift Rating provides pilots who hold this rating the privilege to fly powered-lift airplanes under instrument flight rules (IFR). FAA defines powered-lift as a heavier-than-air aircraft capable of vertical takeoff, vertical landing, and low speed flight that depends principally on engine drive lift devices or engine thrust for lift. Applicants must meet prerequisite and experience requirements. Applicants must pass a written and practical exam.
