Heavy Highway Construction professionals build the infrastructure, working on roads, bridges and ports, otherwise called non-building construction. A trained heavy highway construction worker needs math skills and knowledge of heavy equipment operations, safety, earthmoving, hand tools and traffic regulations.
To help trainees get started in the industry, the Heavy Highway program provides a new Heavy Highway Helper credential. Overall, completing the two level program results in several credentials:

- The certification has an education level of an Associates of Arts or Associates of Sciences degree or higher, but has a work experience requirement of less than 2 years of work experience.
- The certification has a work experience requirement of more than 2 years but does not require a two-year Associates of Arts or Associates of Sciences degree.
- This certification is related to the Job Corps training program.
